has centered on the guy leaving. But once you set aside trading Odell Beckham to the Browns Chad Thomas Color Rush Jersey , Giants coach Pat Shurmur sounded genuinely excited about the addition of guard Kevin Zeitler (who also came over from Cleveland in a separate deal for Olivier Vernon).“He’s been a steady, solid performer at right guard and moving forward, you add a veteran presence at that position,’’ Shurmur told Paul Schwartz of the . “I think of the uncertainly this time last year with the offensive line and I think about how that line grew, the players that are still here, how they grew as the season progressed and they developed. I thought [offensive line coaches Hal Hunter and Ben Wilkerson] did a good job of developing them.’’The addition of Zeitler (and his big contract) continues a string of big investments for their line. Last year’s free agency saw left tackle Nate Solder get a four-year, $62 million deal, and then they used a second-round pick on left guard Will Hernandez. Coupled with the return of center Jon Halapio https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Antonio-Callaway-Jersey , and the Giants only have one position in glaring need of an upgrade (right tackle).“When you add a solid, veteran player that’s established himself and he’s consistent and tough and has all the attributes you’re looking for in an offensive lineman to add to that crew, we got better,” Shurmur said. While Shurmur was praising Zeitler, it was mentioned that he was all-business.“It’s a refreshing concept, isn’t it?’’ the Giants coach said. “Because that’s what you want. You want guys who want to take care of their families. He’s got a wife, young family, take care of your family and do your job. It’s very refreshing.’’While that could be reasonably viewed as a thinly veiled shot at the guy Shurmur no longer has to coach Britton Colquitt Jersey , what is clear is that he’s relieved to have a better grade of protection for Eli Manning. Longtime NFL defensive end Greg Spires is being held on $50,000 bond, after he was charged of stalking his teenage daughter from a previous marriage.According to Alyssa Dandrea of the , a judge set the bail after Spires went to his daughter’s high school sporting event, in violation of a protective order. The girl’s mother (Spires’ ex-wife) also filed a restraining order against Spires. They were divorced over a decade ago.Spires was never charged with domestic violence, but he did agree to go to anger management after he was accused of assault by his ex-wife in 2005. The woman and her daughter moved to New Hampshire three years ago, and her address has remained confidential, as she has obtained numerous restraining orders against Spires. The stalking petition says Spires can’t be within 500 feet of his daughter Tyrod Taylor Jersey , including at her school or any of her sporting events. At his arraignment, Spires said he wanted to have a relationship with his daughter, whom he was granted joint custody of in the divorce. He lives in Texas. The 44-year-old Spires played 10 years in the NFL for the Patriots, Browns, and Buccaneers.

GREEN BAY Rashan Gary Jersey , Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers will be without at least one of their starting receivers Sunday at Detroit.Randall Cobb has been ruled out, a hamstring injury sidelining him for the second consecutive week.Davante Adams, who injured a calf at Wednesday’s practice, will practice Saturday, coach Mike McCarthy said, and is listed as questionable. Also questionable is Geronimo Allison, who suffered a concussion during last week’s victory over Buffalo and has not practiced this week. The Lions have ruled out defensive end Ziggy Ansah (shoulder), guard T.J. Lang (concussion) and tight end Michael Roberts (knee).Adams (28 receptions, 285 yards, three touchdowns), Allison (19 catches, 289 yards, two touchdowns) and Cobb (17 catches, 194 yards, one touchdown) represent 62.1 percent of the completions, 64.8 percent of the receiving yards and 85.7 percent of the passing touchdowns for Green Bay through the first four games.“This is an important day,” coach Mike McCarthy said about Friday, a recovery-and-rehabilitation day under the team’s weekly format. “Usually by the end of today you have a pretty good idea how it’s going to shake out. Injuries are a part of the game. You have to be able to play through injuries in games, play through injuries in practice, play through injuries that you’re able to prepare for. That’s all part of your game plan.”Behind those three receivers, the Packers have three rookies — Marquez Valdes-Scantling http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jace-sternberger-jersey , J’Mon Moore and Equanimeous St. Brown. Valdes-Scantling has the only two catches from that group.Aaron Rodgers was removed from the injury report. He was full participation on Thursday — his first full-participation practice since suffering an injured left knee during the first half of the Week 1 victory over Chicago.“It’s a step forward, definitely,” McCarthy said. “He took every rep (Thursday) in practice.”Two starting defensive backs, cornerback Jaire Alexander and safety Kentrell Brice, are questionable for the Packers. Cornerback Kevin King, who missed the last two games with a groin injury, was full participation all week and was removed from the injury report. THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — When it comes to quarterbacks creating something out of nothing, Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay and Russell Wilson of Seattle are the gold standard.Fortunately for safety John Johnson III and the rest of the Los Angeles Rams‘ defense, they already got a look at Wilson’s Houdini act and can use that experience to prepare for what Rodgers and the Packers might do on Sunday.“We get good practice at just staying on our man, keeping our eyes on our luggage,” Johnson said Thursday.Wilson was 13 of 21 passing for 198 yards and three touchdowns in the Rams’ 33-31 Week 5 win in Seattle, but the Rams were able to limit the number of off-schedule plays he was able to make.“It’s the NFL, you’re going to give up a few plays, but as a whole I think we did pretty well in just keeping our eyes on our guys and maintaining that focus through the play,” Johnson said.Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is just as concerned about Rodgers’ knack for improvisation, calling the two-time MVP one of the best ever in that aspect of the game.“He’s thrown every scramble pass you can think of for big plays,” Phillips said. “If you’re in zone or man, you have to get close to the guy you have (in coverage) and stay with him the whole time. That’s where they excel.”While Wilson will try to bounce outside and away from pressure, Rodgers is more likely to hang in the pocket to give his receivers a chance to come open.Ndamukong Suh, who faced Rodgers regularly during his five seasons with the Detroit Lions http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/darnell-savage-jr.-jersey , believes Rodgers’ ability to survey all areas of the field when a play breaks down makes him more dangerous than Wilson in scramble mode.“He’s very active as a quarterback, especially pushing the ball down the field,” Suh said. “I think they’re both elite quarterbacks, but I have a little bit more respect for Aaron.”Relishing the chance to chase down Rodgers again, the veteran defensive lineman ruefully laughed when reminiscing about the NFC North rivalry.Suh said Rodgers usually does not talk to him on the field because “I don’t know if he likes me.” That’s fine by Suh.“My response is when he’s getting up from the ground,” Suh said. “That’s what I’m excited for, or giving him a nice L, which I have done plenty of times in the past. That’s the ultimate goal going against an elite quarterback like that.”Suh rarely had to face Rodgers when complimented by a rushing offense as varied and successful as what Green Bay has this season in running backs Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery. The trio is combining to average 4.4 yards per carry, and the Packers’ overall average of 4.7 yards per attempt ranks ninth in the NFL.The Rams want to make the Packers one-dimensional, force Rodgers into throwing situations and unleash the pass rush anchored by Suh, Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers. If Rodgers is able to evade pressure and do “what he does best,” as Johnson said, the Rams will risk it.“He’ll just hang in the pocket a long, long time sometimes for people to come open,” Phillips said. “It’s a tremendous challenge.”NOTES: OLB Trevon Young (knee) did not practice Thursday. Young, a rookie from Louisville drafted in the sixth round, recovered a fumble against the 49ers on Sunday and has seen an increase in snaps since Dominique Easley was placed on injured reserve Oct. 2 because of a knee injury. … LT Andrew Whitworth and C John Sullivan each had the day off for rest.

in recent years Rock Ya-Sin Jersey , but one running back appears poised to be snapped up no later than the end of the first round.Alabama running back Josh Jacobs has been mocked to draft slots in the 20s in most mock drafts, with the Raiders (who own picks 24 and 27) appearing to like him and the Eagles and Colts (25th and 26th) high on him as well.In his mock draft, Peter King projected the Raiders trading up to 21st to take Jacobs. Oakland may think it has to move up to 24 to keep some other team from leapfrogging it.The Raiders are reportedly poised to do something surprising, but taking Jacobs at No. 4 overall would be stunning, not just surprising.Still, for as much as the NFL has become a passing league and not a running league, teams continue to draft running backs. Last year Saquon Barkley went second overall, Rashaad Penny 27th and Sony Michel 31st. Jacobs surely won’t go as high as Barkley did last year, but he seems likely to be off the board as early as Penny was last year. The Indianapolis Colts notched their 8th win of the season in a 23-0 route of the NFC East leading Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys came into the week with one of the top defenses in all of football T.Y. Hilton Jersey , lead by their dominant front seven that features some insanely athletic linebackers. The Colts’ offense was missing a few pieces as standout right guard Mark Glowinski was out due to injury and Pro-Bowl caliber center Ryan Kelly was making his first start in weeks.Overall though, the Colts’ offensive line along with Ryan Hewitt and Mo Alie-Cox absolutely dominated the Cowboys’ front seven. The lineman looked motivated in all aspects of the game and came out with a fire that was even a new level for them. Every rep featured the Cowboys’ dominant front being knocked back on their heels. Anthony Castonzo and Quenton Nelson were borderline great in this game. This is part one of a two part Film Room series I’ll be doing this week on the Colt- Cowboys game. Tomorrow I will look at the other side of the ball, as the Colts’ front seven on defense also dominated the Cowboys’ offensive line. For now though, let’s jump into the offensive line film of the Colts. Film ReviewThe first clip here is a good one, as both Ryan Kelly and Anthony Castonzo are able to get to the second level to help spring Marlon Mack. The play starts with two excellent down blocks by both Mo Alie- Cox and Braden Smith. Quenton Nelson also shows off elite hip movement and body control by being able to establish inside position on his guy and shield off movement of the defender— he actually takes out two backside defenders here. Joe Haeg crushes a cornerback on his pull, while both Castonzo and Kelly get enough of the linebackers to get Mack more yards. Great blocking all around. This next clip again features movement along the offensive line. First, Castonzo pulls outside which leads to the defensive end shooting upfield and losing contain. Then, Hewitt pulls across the line of scrimmage and performs an excellent block on the linebacker to create the lane up the gut. Nelson also handles his guy inside to create the initial lane. The block of the play though goes to Ryan Kelly as he gets to the second level and seals off Leighton Vander Esch. Nearly results in a touchdown.I absolutely love this next clip. The Colts love this play and have run it quite a bit this season. They love bringing their tight end inside on these trap plays to block the free rushing defender. However, the Colts have lessened their usage of these types of plays ever since Jack Doyle went down with a season ending injury. Here Darius Leonard Color Rush Jersey , they use Alie-Cox in that role and he blocks it perfectly. He seals off the edge perfectly and gives Mack just enough room to squeeze in for the touchdown. Shout-out to Nelson on this play too as he buries his guy in the ground with a very mean spirited block. Next clip again features Mack being sprung for a big gain— a common theme throughout the game. Alie- Cox again blocks the free rusher on the trap play which leads to the initial gain. Watch Nelson on the other side though and how effortlessly he is able to flip his hips while engaged with his defender. That is elite movement skills by a Pro- Bowl caliber player. Haeg also makes a huge block on Vander Esch— driving him out of the play— and Kelly gets enough of Jaylon Smith. If Zach Pascal held his block a bit longer, this could’ve been a much bigger run. A staple of the Colts’ offense is this next sweep play here. This play has gone for big gains in the past— notably the 53-yard Jordan Wilkins run against the Jaguars— and here it again finds success. The inside blockers all do their job initially as nobody allows an interior defender to leak through. Pascal gets a very nice down block on the defensive end. Castonzo takes the cornerback completely out of the play— regardless of what the officials call, this is not a block in the back. Kelly leads the way on this play as Mack follows him the entire way for the big first down. This next rep was mainly added because of one block in particular but overall its still a well blocked play. Kelly Castonzo and Alie-Cox all hold their blocks and Mack is able to run behind them for the solid gain. Look at Nelson though against Vander Esch. Nelson drives him completely out of the play and Vander Esch is left stumbling. LVE loses his footing and Nelson takes that opportunity to bury LVE in the ground. This is a rookie-on-rookie crime right here and Nelson shows just how great he has been this year. This next rep is nothing special but I just wanted to add it in to highlight how good they were in pass blocking on Sunday. They had some rough moments for sure but overall the line did a great job of diagnosing stunts and blitzes all day. The Cowboys’ front is similar to the Colts where they stunt more than they blitz to create pressure. The Colts’ offensive line— which is tied for first in football in least amount of sacks— did a great job of communicating and diagnosing these plays all day. Luck was only pressured three times all game as a result.Next rep here again features the offensive line pulling into space— noticing a trend? Here there are three excellent blocks that spring this play. First, Haeg gets great positioning on his defender inside and forces him out of the play with an excellent leg drive. Kelly is able to reach Smith at the second level and knocks him off balance with a powerful punch. The best block though is Castonzo pulling across the entire line to seal the inside off from Vander Esch. Great play call with excellent blocking up front.I have yet to see this play in any other game this year from the Colts, but I love the design. The entire interior of the offensive line is double teaming the defensive tackles to prevent them from penetrating up the field. After the Oline is able to drive the entire defensive line off of the ball, Mack gets the hand-off. Alie-Cox makes the block of the play as he pulls across the line and crushes DeMarcus Lawrence on the backside. Mack stays skinny in the hole and Smith over runs his run fit, leading to the easy touchdown. There a bunch of great highlights on this next rep by the entire line. Nelson takes yet another life as he buries his defender on the pull. Haeg does a great job getting to the second level and sealing off the linebacker. Even Le’Raven Clark gets a nice block inside. The key to this run though is the elite reach block by Castonzo on linebacker Damien Wilson. It is absolutely incredible. Castonzo is in no position to make this play yet he quickly gets to the linebacker and crushes him, opening up the hole for Mack to run through. What. A. Play. Block of the year candidate here from Castonzo. Another rep here and another great run block by Castonzo and Nelson. There is originally no room on this run as Nelson and Castonzo are double teaming down inside. Nelson then slides off the double team to block the gap shooting Vander Esch and Castonzo continues driving his legs until his defender is in the ground, creating a running lane. Great blocks on the outside as well by both Clark and Alie- Cox to spring this run. Last clip of the day— I know I know https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Denzelle-Good-Jersey , I too wanted to see more of Nelson crushing Vander Esch— and the offensive line dominates the entire line of scrimmage. Just across the board excellent blocking here to spring the game ending run. Nelson again takes care of Vander Esch to finish off the trend of the day. Castonzo also drives his defender away from the ball creating the huge lane, finishing off an amazing day for him. Overall, such a dominant performance up front by these guys.Final ThoughtsWhat a day for the offensive line who really stepped up against the Cowboys. Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch are two of the better young linebackers in football and they were simply bullied into submission by the Colts’ lineman. DeMarcus Lawrence is one of the best pass rushers in football and he barely made a mark whatsoever in the game. Almost all of the Cowboys’ defensive play-makers were silent all game. There are so many game balls to hand out for this one. Anthony Castonzo was simply dominant all day as he handled Lawrence in pass pro and was a force in run blocking. Most of the big holes were at his hands. Quenton Nelson was a wrecking ball all day as he was burying guys left and right. Finally though, Mo Alie-Cox was sensational. He looked like Jack Doyle at times with his run blocking.Overall, the Colts dominated the trenches all day and it is what led to the victory on Sunday. The Colts lineman took the Cowboys’ soul and crushed them easily in the game. Hopefully the line can continue this play going forward as the Colts are in must-win mode for the rest of the season. In conclusion though, just have to marvel out how great a performance this was in such a big game.

the collective bargaining agreement NFL players and owners signed at the end of the lockout in 2011 Bobby Wagner Color Rush Jersey , there will certainly be a lot of debate over the next couple of years regarding which side got the better deal. Beyond that, there is likely to be significant debate about whether or not we as fans will get to watch NFL football in 2021 or whether the league will have its first work stoppage since the Reagan administration if one of the sides proves determined to dig in. In any case, as the salary cap has continued to grow in recent seasons, largely as a result of the phenomenal job Roger Goodell has done in continuing to build new and expand on existing revenue streams, the current CBA has led to several direct changes that have gone largely unnoticed. Obviously, most fans are happy that the rookie wage scale is in place, because it has eliminated the stupidity of contracts given to draft picks at the top of the first round. Just a few examples of some of those less than ideal contracts are listed below: JaMarcus Russell, QB Oakland Raiders, 6-year, $68M with $32M guaranteed,Aaron Curry, LB Seattle Seahawks, 6-year, $60M with $34M guaranteed, Sam Bradford, QB St. Louis Rams Justin Coleman Color Rush Jersey , 6-year, $78M with $50M guaranteed, Jason Smith, T St. Louis Rams, 6-year, $61M with $32M guaranteed, Mark Sanchez, QB New York Jets, 5-year, $50M with $28M guaranteed, Darren McFadden, RB Oakland Raiders, 6-year, $60M with $26M guaranteed, Vernon Gholston, DE New York Jets Russell Wilson Color Rush Jersey , 5 Year, $32M with $21M guaranteed.Fans of the Seahawks are obviously familiar with the name Aaron Curry, while Sam Bradford has become the poster boy for players who have made tens of millions of dollars while doing next to nothing on the field. However, Vernon Gholston remains one of my favorite draft busts of all time. After recording 22.5 sacks over his final two seasons at Ohio State University, he decided to forego his remaining eligibility and enter the 2008 NFL Draft. He tested phenomenally at the combine, putting up 37 reps on the bench press and running the 40 in 4.58 seconds. For those who were a part of the discussion on Cliff Avril’s ten yard split in the 40 at the 2008 combine, Gholston was another of those players whose ten yard split was suspiciously fast that year. Specifically, Gholston was clocked at 1.53 in the 10 yard split, which is fast than either Paul Richardson or Tyler Lockett, in spite of weighing eighty pounds more than either of those two speedy Seattle receivers. In any case, Gholston was horrible during his three seasons in the NFL, and by horrible I mean he not only failed to record a single sack during his three years with the Jets, he recorded just two quarterback hits and 17 pressures over the course of three seasons. Just to put that in perspective, that’s fewer sacks, fewer hits and the same number of pressures as Dion Jordan’s injury shortened and ineffective 2018 season. Moving back to the 2011 CBA, however Brandon Marshall Color Rush Jersey , the purpose of the rookie wage scale was obviously to move some of the money the league allocates for the players from rookies just as JaMarcus Russell and Aaron Curry to the veteran players who were good enough to contribute but not good enough to land massive contracts. The idea was that if teams weren’t forced to pay rookies exorbitant amounts, there would be more money for the veterans. Well, that hasn’t exactly happened. What has happened is the exact opposite, as the rookie wage scale has helped contribute to players having shorter careers as teams choose to keep cost-controlled younger players around rather than sign aging and expensive veterans. This short video does a great job of explaining a small piece of this. So, what has happened is that rather than the rookie wage scale moving money from young players to veterans, it has moved money from veterans to rookies, with the difference being funneled to a handful of players, most notably pass rushers and quarterbacks. To be able to afford the record contracts that are going to players like Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan and Jimmy Garoppolo, many teams have moved to eliminate the middle class. They have rosters constructed of players making very good money and then huge portions of the roster filled with rookies on cost effective first contracts. In addition, what is not shown is that this shortening of the average career of NFL players may have a significant negative impact on the future for players. In order for NFL players to earn their retirement benefits based on the number of credited seasons they accrue during their playing career. With the average career being shortened, it is possible that the future obligations of the league (and by league I mean the teams and owners) could be decreased. Thus, instead of acting to shift money from rookies to veterans, the rookie wage scale may have had the dual effects of shifting money from mid-tier veterans to younger players while simultaneously reducing the number of players collecting retirement benefits in the future. Obviously, without more details than what is provided in that short clip it is impossible to perform the calculations necessary to determine this, however Cortez Kennedy Color Rush Jersey , this could be one of those hidden areas where players lost out to owners yet again as a result of improper accounting assumptions while calculating future obligations. In any case, with the offseason upon us, and no meaningful football between now and July, we will be covering a lot of ground regarding the CBA and the potential for a lockout or strike prior to the 2021 season. Obviously we’ve got free agency (starting March 13) and the draft (April 25-27) to tide us through, but it’s time to start hunkering down for the long offseason. SEATTLE (AP)Defensive end Cliff Avril was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday with a failed physical designation due to a neck injury that cost him most of the 2017 season.Avril’s release was expected and likely means the end of a 10-year career during which he was a standout player for the Seahawks and the Detroit Lions.Avril was injured in Week 4 last season while trying to chase down Indianapolis quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The back of Brissett’s foot caught Avril in the chin as he lunged to make the tackle. Avril was seen shaking his arms and flexing his hands after the impact. While the play looked innocuous, Avril’s head snapped back violently and he suffered a neck injury. Avril never revealed the specific diagnosis for his injury but coach Pete Carroll repeatedly called it a serious situation. Avril had neck surgery following the season.Carroll praised Avril after Seattle concluded the first day of its rookie minicamp.”He’s been a great leader. He’s been a bit of a statesman for us. He always says the right thing, stands for the right stuff and been a really high character guy that you can always count on,” Carroll said. ”A great competitor in the program. I love him and would like to keep him connected with our club as long as we can because he’s just exactly what you hope to represent you. He’s had a great career with us.”Avril arrived in Seattle before the 2013 season and instantly helped transform the Seahawks defense into one of the best in recent memory. He was part of a rotation at first but became a full-time starter in 2014. His best season came in 2016 when Avril had a career-high 11 sacks and was voted to the Pro Bowl for the only time in his career.Avril spent five seasons in Detroit before coming to Seattle. He was a third-round pick out of Purdue and suffered through a 0-16 season in his rookie year with the Lions. He became a standout in Detroit but experienced his greatest team success in Seattle, helping the team win the Super Bowl in his first season with the Seahawks. He made a return trip to the championship game with the team the following year.”Thank you 12s for making the last 5 years in Seattle so amazing!” Avril wrote in a post on Instagram . ”Your cheers on Sundays are unmatched, and you guys are by far the best fans in the NFL! Most importantly, I appreciate and value the lifelong friendships I’ve made. You all have supported my family, my foundation (the Cliff Avril Family Foundation), and I throughout my entire tenure, and I could not have asked for more! THANK YOU to the entire Seahawk organization as well as my teammates. You all made me a Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl Champ! I am forever grateful.”Releasing Avril will save Seattle about $6 million against the salary cap. But the Seahawks will also be faced with replacing another productive standout from a defense that had already seen the departures of Michael Bennett and Richard Sherman earlier this offseason.—

tenure with the Cleveland Browns has ended. The team isn’t going to help him any longer. He let them down for the final time. The Browns announced Saturday night that it intends to release the former Pro Bowl wide receiver Baker Mayfield Color Rush Jersey , whose immense talent has been overshadowed by substance abuse that has derailed a promising career. The stunning news came just hours after the Browns said Gordon would miss Sunday’s game in New Orleans with a mysterious hamstring injury. Gordon has been suspended by the NFL for most of the past four seasons because of multiple drug violations, and the Browns have been supportive of the 27-year-old for years as he tried to get his life together. Not anymore.“This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday,” general manager John Dorsey said in a statement. “For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we’ve reached a point where we feel it’s best to part ways and move forward. We wish Josh well.”The team provided no specifics about what prompted their decision to part ways with Gordon. He reported to the team’s headquarters earlier in the day, and spokesman said Gordon was evaluated by doctors and the decision was made to keep him home because of the hamstring.Gordon posted a message on his Instagram account thanking the city of Cleveland.“This place will always feel like home to me,” Gordon said. “”I’m extremely honored and blessed to grow up and start a life amongst such a passionate and motivated group of individuals. It’s been a hell of a journey with you guys. I wish all of you nothing but the best.”Gordon went on to thank the Browns “for having me. I’ll never forget me time here. Same book, next chapter.”He ended the post with, “P.S. Anybody need a deep threat WR??”It’s unclear what his imminent release means for Gordon’s playing future. Gordon was in the league’s substance-abuse program and if he failed another drug test, he could be facing more discipline. It’s possible the Browns will try to trade Gordon before Monday so they can recoup something for a player whose has wasted his massive potential. If Cleveland releases Gordon, he’ll be a free agent and can sign anywhere.Losing Gordon is a major blow to Cleveland’s offense. The Browns have receivers Jarvis Landry https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Emmanuel-Ogbah-Jersey , rookie Antonio Callaway and Rashard Higgins, but none of them poses the same deep-field threat as the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Gordon who has breakaway speed. The Browns have had negotiations with former Dallas star Dez Bryant, but the sides have not been able to work out a deal.Gordon missed three weeks of training camp this summer to undergo counseling and treatment, and he recently said he was in a good place mentally and physically.Gordon played in last week’s season opener against Pittsburgh, his first appearance in a Week 1 game since 2012, when he was a rookie. On Wednesday, Gordon, who played 69 snaps last week, said he was glad to have the opener behind him and was looking forward to playing the Saints.“Physically I felt great,” he said. “It was good to get that experience and that feeling underneath me, especially an overtime game Denzel Ward Jersey , the weather and everything, the amount of snaps and reps, it’s good for my body to feel that. I feel great now. I felt great during the game, it was just good to see that my motor was at a decent point at that late in the game.”Gordon was expected to have an expanded role this week against the Saints after being targeted just three times in a 21-21 tie against the Steelers. He caught a game-tying, 17-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but was mostly used as a decoy.Gordon started the opener despite coach Hue Jackson saying he wouldn’t be on the field for the first snap as punishment for missing camp. Jackson blamed Gordon’s appearance on the first play a “mistake” and “miscommunication,” and Gordon said he was shocked to be on the field.Jackson refused to elaborate on the situation this week, saying he and the coaching staff wanted to “move on.”Gordon emerged as one of pro football’s most dynamic players in 2013, when he led the league with 1,646 yards receiving and scored nine touchdowns. However, he’s been in a downward spiral since and Gordon by Commissioner Roger Goodell for the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons. He sat out the first 11 games last year before returning for Cleveland’s final five games, and caught 18 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown. His teammates had been encouraged by Gordon’s commitment to staying clean and turning his life around. Other than his unexpected absence from training camp Trevon Coley Color Rush Jersey , Gordon had been a solid teammate and there was hope he had finally turned the corner after so many setbacks. The Browns selected Gordon in the 2012 supplemental draft despite his background of drug use in college. the successor to Mike McCarthy. In a bit of a surprise Dexter Williams Jersey , it is not Josh McDaniels. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team has selected Matt LaFleur as the next head coach. Schefter reports that the team has begun telling other interviewees that their decision is made and that they should continue pursuing other options. The hire is reportedly imminent, though not yet official.LaFleur was one of the candidates that the Packers interviewed this weekend - on Sunday, to be exact. He has just one year of playcalling experience, holding those duties in 2018 as the Titans' offensive coordinator after holding the same title but not calling plays for the 2017 Los Angeles Rams. APC discussed his experience in more detail in a post last week, which you can find here.LaFleur will surely work closely with Aaron Rodgers this season Elgton Jenkins Jersey , as he has made waves for his work with quarterbacks in the past. He was the QBs coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, when Matt Ryan won the MVP award en route to the Super Bowl. He also helped develop Kirk cousins in Washington and was instrumental in Jared Goff's turnaround in Los Angeles last season.LaFleur will have say over his coaching staff in Green Bay. However, an ESPN source indicated that he would like to keep defensive coordinator Mike Pettine on for next season. With Pettine still under contract, that is certainly still an option.Stay tuned as more details come out about this developing story. The Packers didn’t practice Friday, but their injury report shows some mixed news.Worst of all, but perhaps least surprising Dexter Williams Jersey , is news that defensive tackle Kenny Clark has been ruled out with his ongoing elbow troubles. He didn’t play last Sunday and was rumored to be headed to injured reserve earlier this week.Meanwhile, wide receiver Randall Cobb and tackle Jason Spriggs were both listed as doubtful based on their estimated participation during Friday’s practice. Cobb has been in the concussion protocol and has not participated in practice at all this week. Spriggs is also dealing with a concussion. However, starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga was removed from the injury report entirely and will be expected to play. He missed the last two weeks with a knee injury that was recently revealed to be a torn MCL.Wide receiver Jake Kumerow is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game, but would have been a full participant had the Packers practiced today.Other than that, the Packers have a pretty clean injury sheet for a Week 16 game. Aaron Rodgers, Jamaal Williams Vince Biegel Color Rush Jersey , Lucas Patrick, and JK Scott were all removed from the injury report today and are expected to play.OUT: DT Kenny ClarkDOUBTFUL: WR Randall Cobb, OT Jason SpriggsQUESTIONABLE: WR Jake Kumerow

New,36commentsEDTShareTweetShareShareAt What Positions Do the Colts Still Need to Find Long-term Solutions? Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsFollowing this year’s NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts filled a number of roster holes with ten draft selections—both now and for the future. However, there are still a number of positions where the Colts could still look to find a long-term solution. It doesn’t mean the franchise is in a dire state regarding these positions, but at the same time, it may not be a bad idea for the Colts to contemplate a contingency plan going forward, either. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsEdge:The Colts pass rush should be much improved with the addition of Justin Houston—who had 10.0 sacks last season for the Chiefs defense. Still, the 30 year old is more of a short-term answer than long-term fixture at the position—having signed a 2-year deal with Indianapolis this offseason. The Colts other top edge defender, Jabaal Sheard, also just turned 30. There’s some room for youthful optimism, as 2nd-year pro, Kemoko Turay, could be poised for a breakout season. One of this year’s 2nd round picks, rookie Ben Banogu, could also get some looks along the edge in his ‘hybrid’ linebacker role. However Eric Ebron Jersey , the Colts still lack that cornerstone, alpha dog pass rusher in his prime that they once had two of (shockingly)—Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, during their “glory days”. Perhaps Turay could become one in time, but the Colts could always look to add a blue chip pass rushing prospect into the fold at any time. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsLeft Tackle:This isn’t a knock on Anthony Castonzo at all, as the former 2011 first round pick remains a very good starting left tackle in the NFL. Castonzo started 11 games for the Colts last season, and upon his return in Week 6, the Indy offensive line elevated its play and protection collectively, instantly becoming one of the league’s best units. However, Castonzo turns 31 years old in August, and is in the last year of his contract with a $11.05M cap hit due this season. I imagine Colts general manager Chris Ballard will want to bring Castonzo back—albeit on a short-term deal. To his credit, Castonzo looks like he still has at least 2 productive years of football left in him. Nevertheless, the Colts could begin kicking the tires on his long-term successor as soon as next offseason. It may be a prudent idea to draft a top left tackle prospect early on and allow him to develop behind the veteran for a season or two before Castonzo permanently hands over the reins. Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY SportsDefensive Tackle:The Colts may have had a tough decision to make with the 26th overall selection had either Clemson’s Christian Wilkins miraculously slid or even Mississippi State’s Jeffery Simmons. Instead, both were long gone and the Colts traded down with Washington. As it stands, the Colts have quality short-term depth at defensive tackle this season. However, Margus Hunt turns 32 in July, and Denico Autry turns 29 in the same month. The Colts also have promising 2nd-year pro Tyquan Lewis (who’s expected to kick inside more at defensive tackle with the addition of veteran pass rusher Justin Houston) Matt Slauson Color Rush Jersey , as well as some other intriguing young defensive tackles such as Grover Stewart and Jihad Ward. That being said, for what the team’s defensive tackle position has in solid veteran production and youthful upside, it could use more dynamic playmakers along the interior. The Colts don’t necessarily have that “game-wrecker”, a guy that opposing teams have to consistently game plan for, or double team against in the interior on Sundays (although Autry, as a Pro Bowl alternate, played very well last season). Perhaps next offseason that could change that for the Colts. Jim Brown-USA TODAY SportsTight End:Hear me out. Tight end could very well be the Colts strongest position group next season with two Pro Bowl caliber tight ends, Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle, as well as impressive depth with Mo Alie-Cox and Ross Travis. It could also be a position that a year from now sees a lot of change. Ebron scored a whopping 15 touchdowns last season and is a free agent after the 2019 season. I think the Colts have every intention of re-signing Ebron right now, but if he wants to be paid like Gronk (retired) or Travis Kelce, Indy could balk at the potential price tag. Ebron showed off his athleticism, speed, and coordination on many of his touchdowns last year. However, he also had a few wide open looks that were simply a byproduct of excellent offensive scheming and play-calling by Frank Reich and his coaching staff to free him up.If he has another highly productive season, he deserves to be fairly compensated for it, but I’m just not sure that Ebron should be ranked among the game’s truly elite tight ends just yet. On the other hand https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Anthony-Walker-Jersey , another former Pro Bowl tight end Jack Doyle only appeared in 6 games last year and is a free agent at season’s end. My expectation is that Doyle will be healthy and have a very productive season for the Colts next year—with Ballard inclined to bring him back on a new team-friendly deal. However, if he has another injury plagued season, it’s not out of the question that the Colts could let him walk—yes, even as productive and beloved of a player as Jack Doyle. If either Ebron or Doyle surprisingly end up out of the picture after 2019, the Colts could be poised to select another tight end early in next year’s draft.Don’t expect it, but don’t be completely shocked either. Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY SportsKicker: The ageless wonder Adam Vinatieri is 46 years old and has shown no signs of slowing down. Seriously, he ages like a fine wine. At this point in time, Vinatieri might kick until he’s 50 (and I’m only half-kidding). Vinatieri converted 23 of 27 field goals last season (85.2%)—having battled through a groin injury. He also made 44 of his 47 extra point attempts (93.6%). Still, father time remains undefeated, and Vinatieri is essentially playing on a year-to-year basis with the Colts. He could hang them up as soon as year’s end, as no one really knows for sure—maybe not even Vinatieri at this point. Already the league’s all-time leading scorer, Vinatieri is simply padding his Hall of Fame resume and presumably playing for one more shot at a Super Bowl championship (which he has four of) with the Colts. It’s not a position that the Colts should actively be seeking a replacement for, but if there’s a blue chip kicking prospect like, say, Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski was in 2006 coming out into the NFL Draft, it may not be a bad idea to heavily consider them. (Although both Vinatieri and even the Baltimore Ravens Justin Tucker were undrafted free agents https://www.coltsfanshop.com , so who knows on that theory). Vinatieri’s leadership and consistent production can’t be understated, but then again, the end comes for everyone—and the Colts have to be prepared for a kicking life after him. Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsQuarterback:No, Andrew Luck isn’t going anywhere, and Colts fans can safely pencil him in as the starting quarterback for the better part of the next decade. However, his backup Jacoby Brissett is set to become a free agent at season’s end, and I’m guessing will be looking to find a new home where he can at least compete for a starting quarterback job (which won’t happen in Indy). The 26 year old Brissett is one of the top backups in the NFL, and he could honestly be the starting quarterback for at least a few teams in the NFL based on his ability and arm. This isn’t a dire Colts need, but given how valuable the quarterback position is, it could be savvy for the Colts to at least spend a mid-round pick next year on a young quarterback to develop for the next few seasons as Luck’s backup. If an NFL team doesn’t have a capable starting quarterback behind center, they’re generally toast on a week-to-week basis. With Luck’s history of injuries, a long-term quality backup seems like a worthwhile investment for the franchise (and something that the Colts could even flip for draft capital down the road—should they properly develop). The Colts claimed offensive guard Jake Eldrenkamp off waivers from New England, the team announced Tuesday. They waived offensive tackle De’Ondre Wesley to make room for Eldrenkamp.Eldrenkamp signed a futures contract with the Patriots on Feb. 5. He spent time on the Browns’ practice squad in 2018.Eldrenkamp participated in training camp with the Rams last summer before they waived him out of the preseason. He spent time on the Rams’ practice squad in 2017 after originally signing as an undrafted free agent out of Washington on May 2 of that year.Wesley signed a futures contract with Indianapolis on Jan. 13. He spent time on the practice squads of the Colts and Bills last season. Wesley spent the entire 2017 season on Buffalo’s practice squad and was on the Ravens’ injured reserve list for the 2016 season. As a rookie in 2015, Wesley spent time on the Ravens’ active roster and practice squad. He saw action in seven games.

As we are all well aware in the wake of the grades the Hawks were given in the wake of the 2012 NFL Draft, these grades mean nothing. For the most part they are little more than one person’s opinion on a team and its new additions, but it sure is fun to look back and laugh when the experts are wrong. In the comments section of the Monday piece, some commenters wondered who was grading the graders, ie who was looking back at their past grades and evaluating how correctly they had evaluated past drafts. Well, Eric Edhold of Yahoo! Sports has done just that, in an amusing post in which he grades his grading of the 2016 NFL Draft. It’s well worth clicking over and reading the article, as much of it is amusing. While he may have been correct about Dak Prescott in the aftermath of the draft, he was not so correct about the man who is pictured in the story’s cover photo. I’m not going to give away what Edholm has to say about current Seahawk Paxton Lynch, but I will say that it alone is worth reading the entire review of his 2016 draft grades. As for his thoughts on the 2016 Seattle draft class in the days after that year’s draft, let’s just take a look for ourselves. In any case Tyler Lockett Color Rush Jersey , while we’re on the topic of draft grades, one Twitter user, @RNBWCV, took the time to put together a spreadsheet of every draft grade for every NFL team from 18 different analysts who assigned grades to every draft class for every team. That’s a lot of work, and I don’t envy that task, but now we can all enjoy the fruits of his labors. The Hawks graded out anywhere from a solid A all the way down to a D+, so that just goes to show the lack of consistency across the board in the grading process. In any case, while they don’t mean anything, the grades are certainly amusing. Particularly amusing is the fact that there are three teams on the chart who received an F grade from an analyst, and at least one other analyst also graded each of these same teams an A. You get to see how the room operates as the Colts are on the clock, and that includes the first round when GM Chris Ballard received a trade offer from the Washington Redskins. As Ballard is contemplating the offer, the phone rings again, and the caption says that Browns GM John Dorsey is calling. Upon first viewing, my reaction was, “whoa, we’re about to get insight into one of the spots Dorsey was interested in moving up to in the first round!” That thought was quickly squashed when Ballard picked up the phone, said, “I’m working,” and hung up. You can see it unfold just after the two-minute mark of the video. The video then cuts to Ballard laughing and explaining what that was about:Dorsey and Ballard worked together in the Kansas City Chiefs’ front office. You can watch the entirety of the segment below; it’s worth sticking around for besides just the Browns’ brief role in it. BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Baker Mayfield dragged more than a Heisman Trophy with him into the NFL. There was other baggage, including a well-earned reputation as being cocky, fiery, brash and over-the-top.He hasn’t changed much. And that’s what the Browns love about their rookie starting quarterback E.J. Gaines Color Rush Jersey , who didn’t need long to firmly plant his own flag in Cleveland.“He walk it,” receiver Jarvis Landry said, “like he talk it.”As Mayfield prepares to make his first pro start in a few days at Oakland, his confidence isn’t the only thing impressing teammates eager to see if the No. 1 overall pick can build upon his sensational debut last week against the New York Jets — a stunning performance that prompted coach Hue Jackson to switch QBs.While he is on the verge of his first visit to play in front of the Raiders’ notoriously rowdy “Black Hole”, Mayfield is showing no fear or signs of complacency. The 23-year-old did not speak to reporters on Wednesday and the only time he was seen in Cleveland’s locker room was to grab the playbook out of his locker.“He’s been real focused,” said left guard Joel Bitonio, one of the team’s captains. “He’s taken the lead in a few meetings just because that’s what the starting quarterback does.”Sooner than the Browns or anyone expected, Mayfield has risen on the depth chart and vaulted from high-profile backup and future QB to the present one.And while it may have happened quickly, Mayfield has shown since the moment the Browns (1-1-1) selected him he’d be prepared for this moment. He’s worked hard, shown humility and remained supportive of Tyrod Taylor, who remains in protocol with a concussion that hastened his benching. Before he was drafted, Mayfield drew comparisons to Johnny Manziel, another Heisman winner who busted for the Browns. The Mayfield-Manziel similarities though, seem to start and stop at their height.“You hear people say https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Damarious-Randall-Jersey , ‘Oh, he’s Johnny or he’s this or he’s that,’ but since I’ve known him he’s been a great guy,” Bitonio said. “He’s been in the building. He’s a confident guy. I think people see that as a little bit of cockiness, but he’s just confident in what he does and he understands you put in the work and he’s ready to compete and he’s ready to play.“And that’s all you want in a quarterback.”But with Mayfield, there’s a little more.It wasn’t long after replacing Taylor during Thursday’s nationally televised game when Mayfield started talking trash to the Jets defensive linemen. That may have surprised a few of his new teammates, but it’s nothing new for Mayfield, whose on-the-field antics in college didn’t stop at choice words.Mayfield loved to antagonize opponents, whether it was telling Kansas’ fans to “stick to basketball” or celebrating a victory at Ohio State by spiking an Oklahoma flag into the turf.“I followed all that stuff, and again, it’s that ‘Walk it, Talk it,'” Landry said. “He definitely has that attitude and charisma, and that is contagious.”It remains to be seen how much of Mayfield’s personality rubs off on his teammates. But Raiders coach Jon Gruden believes a quarterback’s nature can mean as much as arm strength or mobility.“Those are the intangibles that you look for that are hard to find Darren Fells Jersey ,” Gruden said on a conference call. “Do they like the pressure? Do they like the big moment? Some guys come alive, some guys don’t. Some guys can bring out the best in their teammates. Some guys struggle to do that.“But Mayfield has the magic about him. He has the charisma about him that really allows everybody on that team, defensively included to play at a higher level. They know if we can get the ball back to this kid, something good’s going to happen.”Gruden grew up in Ohio rooting for the Browns, and he’s well aware of the team’s two-decades-old search to find a quarterback. With Mayfield, the hunt may be over.“What they have not had is a front-line starter that really can make all of the plays,” Gruden said.“I think Mayfield, if you draw a line under that name, he is the man. He is the story that I think right now is going to become bigger and bigger in Cleveland this year.”NOTES: DE Emmanuel Ogbah (ankle) returned to practice and is expected to play after missing the past two games. … Sunday’s game will be a homecoming of sorts for Jackson, who spent one season as Oakland’s coach. He’ll also be reunited with Gruden as they spent a season coaching together at Pacific. “He taught me football,” Jackson said. “We used to argue every day. I was a wishbone quarterback at the time. I’ve always given Jon credit for where I am today. He helped mold me and shape me into the coach I am a little bit.”

Over a two week span http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jace-sternberger-jersey , Acme Packing Company takes a look at each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provides grades and insight on how they performed in the 2018 season. Today, we examine the defensive line.Exiting the 2017 season, the Green Bay Packers had one star on their defensive line and another player in the midst of a breakout. With Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark leading the way, the front line was poised for a good season in 2018, provided that they got good health. Then, after Brian Gutekunst took over as general manager, he signed an unrestricted free agent to start at the other spot on the line. The new face seemed like a perfect match with the established starters, sliding in comfortably at the 5-technique spot and likely providing additional interior pass rush.Unfortunately, it didn’t work out so well. As APC discussed earlier on Monday, injuries hammered this unit, with all three of those players ending the season on injured reserve. Instead of the big-name signing making a big impact, it was a surprising undrafted rookie who stepped up down the stretch. Here’s a look at the new faces on the Packers’ line in 2018 and how they fared.Muhammad WilkersonHow acquired: Signed as unrestricted free agentContract: One year, $5 million ($1.5 million signing bonus)2018 Stats: 3 games played, 3 starts; 5 total tackles (2 solo)Reunited with his old coordinator Mike Pettine http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/darnell-savage-jr.-jersey , Wilkerson was supposed to revive his NFL career in Green Bay after an ugly falling out with the New York Jets in 2017. Instead, Wilkerson looked like a player trying to find his footing for two-and-a-half games before a gruesome broken ankle ended his season early. In signing Wilkerson, Brian Gutekunst found a high-potential player for a fairly low dollar amount and only a single year on the books; it’s just unfortunate that injury derailed his chance to become an impact player.James LooneyHow acquired: 2018 seventh-round draft pick (#232 overall)Contract: Two years, $1.05 million2018 Stats: 3 games played; no statsThe first of three seventh-round draft picks that the Packers had in 2018, Looney is an athletic project on the defensive line who needs time to develop and bulk up for the NFL. Therefore, it was no surprise when the team released him at the end of training camp and brought him back on the practice squad. With injuries hammering the defensive line, Looney finally received his call-up to the 53-man roster late in the season, but he failed to make any impact. He received just 19 snaps in his three games, playing behind the next two names on this list as well as second-year pro Montravius Adams.Tyler LancasterHow acquired: Signed as undrafted rookie free agentContract: Two years, $1.05 million2018 Stats: 12 games played, 5 starts; 26 total tackles (19 solo); 1 tackle for loss, 1 QB hitThe Packers brought Lancaster in for a visit before the 2018 NFL Draft, and when the team made its initial round of undrafted free agent signings, Lancaster was on the list. However Rashan Gary Jersey , given the perceived depth on the line, it seemed unlikely for the former Northwestern Wildcat to crack the roster, despite a solid Pro Day workout and decent tape as the anchor in the middle of Northwestern’s line. It was a lack of big plays that likely resulted in him going undrafted, and that contributed to him starting the season on the practice squad. But when Wilkerson went down with his injury, Lancaster was the player called up rather than Looney. After seeing just a few snaps per game early on, by the end of the year Lancaster was in the starting lineup and was making those splash plays, particularly in the run game.Lancaster may never be a pass-rusher, but he’s also not just a player who can hold his own at the point of attack — he showed an ability to shed blockers and make some athletic plays at the line of scrimmage. As such, he’ll be in line to earn a key rotational role once again in 2019.Fadol BrownHow acquired: Claimed off waivers from RaidersContract: One year, $480,0002018 Stats: With Packers — 4 games played, 3 total tackles (2 solo), 2 QB hits; With Raiders — 8 games played, 17 total tackles (14 solo) Elgton Jenkins Jersey , 1 tackle for loss, 2 QB hits, 1 pass defendedAfter signing with the Oakland Raiders in 2017 as an undrafted rookie, Brown spent that entire season on the practice squad before making the 53-man roster in 2018. However, Oakland waived him in early December, which was fortuitous timing for the Packers, who scooped him up.Brown played 39 snaps on defense over the final month, but he flashed a bit of pass-rushing ability on occasion. He also alertly made a stop on a fake punt against the Chicago Bears, tackling Benny Cunningham for a one-yard loss near midfield after a big run stop on third-and-short the play before. There’s some potential here in Brown, who moves well for his size. However, his contract expires in March. The Green Bay Packers will be operating with a skeleton crew of cornerbacks this evening when they suit up for action against the Minnesota Vikings. A pair of key players at that position have been deactivated for tonight’s game: veteran Bashaud Breeland and second-year pro Kevin King. That will leave the Packers with four true cornerbacks healthy and active for today’s game: Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson, Tony Brown, and Will Redmond. However http://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Darnell-Savage-Jr.-Jersey , the team might be able to move Tramon Williams back to the boundary for portions of tonight’s game, since safety Kentrell Brice has returned from injury and is in the lineup. Any further injuries at the safety position would be difficult to deal with, however, as Raven Greene joins Breeland and King on the inactive list.Mike Daniels is also out for tonight’s game as expected, which paves the way for more snaps for Tyler Lancaster and Montravius Adams in his spot.On offense, the Packers are once again going to be without Randall Cobb, whose hamstring injury has cost him another game, but tight end Jimmy Graham is active despite breaking his thumb ten days ago in Seattle. Look for the Packers to give more snaps to Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis, however, to help ease Graham’s workload.Minnesota, meanwhile, ruled four players out on Friday, including starting safety Andrew Sendejo and key linebacker Ben Gedeon.
